Bristols iconic bridge looks at its most impressive as the sun begins to set and the illuminations light up to reveal Brunel's masterpiece. I wanted to capture the bridge at its finest, as the light faded to reveal its amazing structure highlighted by the illuminations and also the vehicles crossing over the Avon Gorge using a long exposure.
The image above was captured in between some pretty heavy rain showers and howling winds. I had to weigh by tripod down with my camera bag to prevent any camera shake! Keeping the rain off the lens was fairly difficult too, so it was a very challenging image to capture!
The image above was taken on a small island separating the two way traffic, I'm really pleased with the light trail effect from all the passing vehicles.
The long exposure worked great for this image as the sky takes on a really dramatic look. I had to sandwich myself between someones porch and my tripod to get the right angle for this shot, maybe I'll try a 24mm lens next time!
I loved the contrast between the lit up stone work of the bridge and clear sky with the sun setting.
And finally, a classic shot of the bridge with Clifton and the harbour-side in the foreground.
The Clifton Suspension Bridge really is an icon for the City of Bristol, I loved getting out there and taking this series of images!
